How to Have Soft Feet, All Year Long; No Salon Appointment Needed and Without Toxic Chemicals!

I’m pretty obsessed with natural ingredients, especially hydrogen peroxide – for unexpected uses like this peroxide foot soak and How to Clean with Hydrogen Peroxide post!

Nothing is worse than scratchy, dry and cracked feet! In the summer it’s easy to remember to keep up with foot care, since we’re all wearing sandals and flip-flops… but as soon as the weather turns cold we often forget to pamper our feet, since they’re all covered up in socks, shoes and boots!

I’m not going to say that giving yourself a pedicure at home is as good as a spa pedicure treatment; I’m going to really put my neck on the line and say it’s even BETTER!!

By choosing to take the DIY route with my foot care routine, not only do I save money and time, but I also eliminate my exposure to toxic chemicals often found at nail salons. Not to mention staying away from potential bacterial, foot fungus and fungal infections you can expose yourself to when at your pedicure appointment!.

AND don’t forget that all that bending and stretching to reach your feet is equal to a yoga class, so a DIY pedicure also counts as exercise in my book!

For the purposes of this post on my Foot Soak Recipe with Peroxide and Apple Cider Vinegar, I’m going to stick to the basics and not get into all the details of giving yourself a full-blown pedicure at home including polish.

If you want my full at home pedicure (or no-chip manicure) routine, let me know via commenting on this post!

In the mean time, I exclusively use Olive and June non-toxic nail polish and highly recommend their Complete Pedi System to get all the necessary tools and comes with your choice of 1 or 6 polish colors! Use code: HAYLEYN20 for 20% off any of their systems.

I also love their polish Dry Drops when I’m in a hurry for my polish to dry, Slumber Party Set for some extra over night moisturizing and their Foot Care Essentials Set which includes their new mani-pedi scrub!!

How to make a Hydrogen Peroxide Foot Soak:

This is an easy home remedy to keep your feet smooth as well as aiding in treating bacteria tonsil fungus and all the pesky symptoms we enocounter when we aren’t caring for our feet!

In a large basin, combine warm water, apple cider vinegar and hydrogen peroxide.

When the vinegar and peroxide are combined at full strength, it creates peracetic acid. This acid helps to loosen and soften all the dry skin on your feet. Now don’t panic, we’re not using it at full strength, remember we’re adding water to dilute it!

If your skin is VERY sensitive, start with about 1/4 cup vinegar (I prefer ACV but distilled white vinegar works too) and 1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide to 1 gallon of warm water. If your feet easily gets thick calloused heels and flaky skin, feel free to experiment with stronger dilutions. I have used equal parts vinegar/peroxide/water without any adverse effects or skin irritation. Please use your best judgement & common sense.

Vinegar and peroxide also are amazing for helping to eliminate athlete’s foot and toe nail fungus when used regularly as a part of your foot care routine.

If you are a fan of essential oils, you can also add your favorite scent to your foot soak as well. I like lavender and tea tree oil the best for it’s antifungal properties to keep away toenail fungus.. You can also toss in some epsom salt into the hot water for a relaxing mineral foot soak benefits

Sit back, relax and soak feet for about 30 minutes. Read a book or meditate while that yucky, scratchy skin softens to be easily removed. Then rinse well to completely remove the mixture of this home treatment.

Amopé Pedi Perfect Extra Coarse Electronic Foot File does all the work for you! It gently, yet effectively, sloughs off all the dead, dry and calloused skin from your feet. Amopé also makes a Wet/Dry Rechargeable Foot File that works great! It’s waterproof so you can tackle your dry feet and cracked heels in the shower or while in the bath tub.

Gone are the days of scrubbing and brushing. Amopé Pedi Perfect Foot File makes removing dead, dry skin so much easier.

The extra coarse roller head with long lasting micro-abrasive particles comes with finely ground diamond crystals. It buffs away hard skin leaving you with visibly and touchably smooth feet. Gently rotate the file over hard skin and see the dead skin disappear.

Lastly, moisturize your feet with some coconut oil, lotions or favorite foot cream to keep your feet soft and smooth in between your pedicures. I’ve also heard amazing things about using Vicks vaporub on your feet too to keep corns and calluses soft.

Everything you need to create a beautiful & healthy DIY pedicure holiday gift can be found at your local CVS. No need to stop at a bunch of different stores, when they’ve got all bases covered. Here’s the only thing I need to warn you about, the Amopé Pedi Perfect Extra Coarse Electronic Foot File can be a little difficult to find in the store, I had to take 2 laps before I located it with help from a store employee. It’s found near the other foot care items on the foot care aisle, you know the athlete’s foot powder and moleskin blister thingies.

After you grab your Amopé Pedi Perfect Foot File, pick up an organic apple cider vinegar & hydrogen peroxide for the foot soak and a coconut oil for a moisturizer. Pack it all up in a cute basin with a small towel and holiday swag for the perfect gift!
