It’s hard to believe that it was over 8 years ago that Ray called me on his way to work, to say that there was a stray puppy running on the road near our house.
Immediately I left to go after the little fur baby. After corralling her into my car and stopping at every nearby house trying to find her humans without luck, I took her back to our house (snuggled safely in a puppy crate) before going to work for the day.
Ray wasn’t happy that I took the puppy home, but what was I going to do?
Max (our old dog) liked the puppy and they had a great time playing… but Max was old and a puppy was too much for him. Although we loved this cute little black and white puppy immediately, we knew that she couldn’t stay with us long term.
While we were trying to find her the prefect home, we focused on house breaking her and basic puppy training… but she was difficult. She was a picky eater. After trying nearly every treat available, she loved Pup-Peroni treats!
Isn’t she adorable?!?!?!?! That face!
Timing is everything. And the best way to overcome the sadness of saying goodbye to a fur baby is most often getting a puppy… “Abby” went to live with our friend Betty Jack in Maryland and we made sure to send her home with several bags of Pup-Peroni too.
Shower Your Doggie with Love with Pup-Peroni
Ever since Abby, Pup-Peroni treats have proven to be the secret weapon that all dogs just LOVE. Even when they don’t “want to,” they will for a Pup-Peroni.
How do you think I trained Hercules to sit, posed for photos so well?
You guessed it, Pup-Peroni.
All I have to do is tell him that’s it’s “Photo Time” and show him a book or box — before you know it he’s pawing at the front door eager to jump up into his chair.
But it wasn’t always that easy. It’s taken us a few years to hone his skills.
Hercules, like his mother, always loved sitting in chairs on his own. It’s just been his thing, but having him calmly hold things – especially things that he really wants to eat – has been harder to train.
Once he realized that after he does what I want, and is patient, he gets one of his favorite treats, he’s willing to do pretty much anything. I’m sure he can smell the Pup-Peroni in my pocket too.
He’s kind of amazing.
And I love spoiling him with a few Pup-Peroni treats as a special thank you for being so photogenic and patient.
But don’t worry! It’s not all work for Hercules, he’s currently snoring on the couch deep into an afternoon nap.
Apparently being a dog-model is hard work.
He is snoring so loudly, I can barely hear myself type currently. What a life.
Hercules’ favorite Pup-Peroni treats are the Original Beef and he likes the Bacon too. I just grabbed a giant bag of them this morning at Walmart in the pet aisle. My dogs love them because real meat like beef, steak, and bacon are the #1 ingredient!
With 2 dogs, the big bag is 100% necessary.
Next time you’re our shopping, don’t forget to get your fur baby some Pup-Peroni at Walmart!
While I often share Hercules’ photos since he’s so eager to pose, Argos is the baby of our family. He’s the one that gets all the snuggles and attention.
I mean really, just look at him. How could you resist cuddling when he begs?
I know we can’t.
Argos loves Pup-Peroni treats too.
But most important, our boys love each other and playing together.
How do you shower your dog with love? What’s your best training tip or advice?
