DIY: Homemade Non-Toxic Wallpaper Remover Spray

Before I start a new home improvement project it’s all sunshine and rainbows..  And it’s an awesome sense of accomplishment when it’s finished and looking beautiful. However it’s all that hard work inbetween that I sincerely hate.

Especially falling off the ladder.

Yes that happened and don’t worry I’m alright.

I’m haf-way through my October 31 Day Water Fast, which has given me ample energy and lots of free time (since I’m not cooking/eating). So, of course I decided to basically makeover 75% of our house before the holidays.

So, if you’ve been wondering why things have been quiet here at HSITK, I mean with fasting you’d think I’d be getting caught up on my blogging work, right?? Nope. I’m busy working on home improvement projects.

Our small ranch home is an open floor plan; kitchen, dining and living are all one open space. Recently we opened up a double doorway between one guest bedroom and the living room so my office isn’t so secluded. Of our total 1,200 sq/ft – at least 800 sq/ft is all one large open space.

Part of this holiday-facelift includes removing wallpaper from the kitchen and dining areas. Wallpaper is a mistake you only make once, then when you have to remove it you swear to never wallpaper again.

But removing wall paper doesn’t have to be hard, nor does it have to include exposing yourself to toxic chemicals!

By simply mixing 3/4 water with 1/4 non-toxic fabric softener in a spray bottle, you’ve created an amazingly effective wallpaper remover spray!

Simply pull off what wallpaper you can, then generously spray what’s left stuck to the wall, saturating it well. Allow to soak in a few minutes then scrape off with a putty knife.

I’ve used this Homemade Non-Toxic Wallpaper Remover for the removal of many different types of wallpaper and it’s worked every single time. Even the most stuck on wallpaper peeled right off after a 2nd application.

Right after I finished up the last of the wallpaper removal in the hallway (guest bath on left, guest bedroom straight ahead and hall closet on right – behind me is the open house – far right is my office on the other side of the closet) I was so excited I missed the last step on the ladder and fell flat onto the ground.

Oh and one last thing – while you’re welcome to use any non-toxic brand/scent favorite softener you’d like, I really like THIS one and with the lavender essential oil based scent, so you get some relaxing aromatherapy while removing your wallpaper too!
