Homemade Mint Extract

Mint Extract

You can easily make your own Fresh Mint Extract! It’s so easy, you’ll never have to buy it again! And it’s a great way to preserve all the mint your garden will be growing this summer.

Here’s what you need:

  • Fresh Mint Leaves
  • Vodka, preferably Organic
  • Jar/bottle with tight fitting lid

For each 1/2 pint jar I used 1 cup of vodka with about 25 fresh mint leaves. Coarsely chop/bruise/muddle your mint leaves and combine in your jar with vodka.. seal it up and let set for 1 month in a dark cabinet, shake it up occasionally.. then strain to remove your mint leaves and there’s your fresh mint extract!!

For another option.. add in a Vanilla Beans to make a Vanilla Mint Extract, which I think is heavenly used when making ice cream!

  1. This looks great! I have Chocolate mint growing right now and I am going to try using it. What is the shelf life on this?

  2. I’ve tried making mint extract before but I was never happy with the taste. I’m trying to think of what I may have done different. Maybe I didn’t bruise the leaves enough….

    1. I have an amazing dairy Vanilla Bean Ice cream recipe posted on my site, but will be working on a dairy free vanilla mint option in the next few weeks!
