The liver is one of the body’s most important organs. That’s because it deals with all aspects of digestion and body metabolism. It releases or triggers certain bodily hormones. The liver is responsible for producing the clotting factors that help the blood clot when you get a cut or wound. It single-handedly breaks down the toxins that make it into our bodies so they can be excreted by the kidneys.

If the liver malfunctions, all of its functions could be seriously compromised. This can lead to a number of serious liver conditions and symptoms, such as MASH symptoms. That’s keeping your liver free of toxins is so important and dandelion root is just the herb for the job.

The plant dandelion is a flowering plant that grows in parts of Europe, Asia, and North America (most of us know it as a weed) – not to be confused with marigolds or daisies. The dandelion’s roots and leaves are both used medicinally. The root is the part that helps cleanse the liver. Compounds in the root cause an increase in bile production. The increase in bile helps to improve digestion. The increased bile production also helps the liver to digest foods and remove toxins quickly and efficiently cleaning the liver. Dandelion is also full of antioxidants, minerals, vitamins and nutrients, which promote hepatic healing.

How to make Dandelion Root Tea

Dandelion root is available as a dandelion extract, tincture, powdered extract, and as tea. If you want to do a deep liver cleanse, tea is the best option.

  • Heat eight ounces of water and put in an organic dandelion root tea bag in boiling water
  • Let it sit for at least 10 minutes then strain
  • Drink this tea three to four times a day
  • Honey can be added to enhance the flavor, unless you need to be causation of blood sugar levels or have diabetes

If you have problems with bloating or water retention, you can further enhance your detoxification and health benefits of dandelions by adding a tablespoon of pure unsweetened organic cranberry juice and a tablespoon of fresh squeezed organic lemon juice to each cup of tea. This will help the kidneys flush out excess water and salt from your body, since it is a natural diuretic which is why it can be beneficial for urinary tract infections too!

Every cup of tea should be followed by a cup of filtered water and you should drink at least 64 ounces of water in addition to the tea each day. A detox like this can be done anywhere from three to ten days, with the average being seven. There is no increased health benefits of dandelion tea from going on a detox lasting longer than ten days. When in doubt discuss with your healthcare provider.

A dandelion root liver cleanse may cause a few unpleasant side effects. Some people experience a mild laxative effect. This is because dandelion root promotes digestive health and clears the digestive tract of toxins. This should last three days maximum and should be mild. After that, it should begin to improve digestion.

Because of dandelion root’s effect on bile production, if you have gallbladder disease, gall stones, or other gall bladder problems, you are cautioned against using dandelion root and should consult a doctor first. Dandelion root interacts negatively with lithium, and certain antibiotics. If you are taking lithium or are on antibiotic therapy, ask your doctor before starting this liver cleanse.

In summary, everyday our liver deals with digestion, metabolism of toxins, hormonal control, and numerous other important activities. It can be overwhelming. A dandelion root tea liver cleanse can help the liver stay healthy and do its job more efficiently. Dandelion root is one of the best herbs available for a liver cleanse. Dandelion root helps the liver flush out toxins and makes it easier for the liver to digest food. It also promotes healing.

A detox done with dandelion root tea is the fastest and easiest way to detoxify the liver. Certain enhancements, such as dandelion leaves, cranberry juice, cinnamon, uva Ursi and lemon juice, can make the liver cleanse even more efficient. People with certain conditions or on certain medications need to check with their doctor before starting a liver cleanse with dandelion root and it does have a couple of unpleasant side effects. That being said, there’s no better way to give your liver a good cleansing and a healthy boost.

How long does it take for Dandelion Tea to work

Dandelion tea begins working right after you consume it. The benefits can last for hours afterwards, think of it as being like any other beverage you might drink; using alcohol as an example. The effects of dandelion tea can also cause upset stomach or heartburn, if over consumed. Like with everything go slowly and listen to how your body responds.

I enjoy dandelion tea several times a week for general health as a coffee substitute.

        1. People use Dandelion flowers and leaves in salads and use the flowers to make a artificial honey. You don’t really have to worry about eating too much unless u eat a gallow of them lol, the whole salad can be made up of dandelion leaves and a few flowers, maybe just stick to eat 3 flowers of something

  3. Is Dandelion Root Tea good to treat fatty liver? I’ve been suffering from it for over 15 years ( not from alcohol ) and seems that as I get older it has gotten worse.

    1. Fatty liver is completely reversible with a diet change (no tea or supplement will magically heal you) I suggest switching to a Low-Carb/ketogenic diet.

      1. I just read ur reply to someone and it was very helpful to me I thank you so much that u reply to her 🙏🏻😍❤️😊

    2. simply drinking a tea won’t be adequate treatment, PLEASE switch to a low-carb/ketogenic diet and you can completely reverse fatty liver in a short period of time.

    1. generally you shouldn’t drink when you eat, it will dilute your stomach acid and make digestion a little more difficult for your body.

        Thanks ??

          1. Yes to drinking everyday or yes to reduce steeping time after a week
or no need to reduce steeping time
            Thanks 🙂

        1. You drink about 3 or 4 cups a day for about 10 days if u want a liver cleanse. For diabetes u can probably drink about 2 cups a day but make sure to talk to your doctor about it first because diabetes medicine can interact with dandelion because you can replace diabetes medicines with dandelions because dandelions work that good at lower blood sugar and it’s much safer too and don’t have many bad symptoms as medication drugs you buy from pharmacies. I would drink 1 cup a day or 2 cups every so often although I don’t have diabetes I just would drink it just to be healthy. If it makes you feel better, during the great depression people would use Dandelions mixed with chickory to make a coffee substitute because food and coffee and other things were scarce and expensive. And think about how those people would drink it everyday instead of coffee.

If your little one has eczema, of course I have to ask about what he/she is eating? of you’re breast feeding what you are eating… I’m an advocate of removing grains/dairy/eggs to see if that resolves the itching.. most often an autoimmune response is related to a food issue.
